I need tips on how to style my naturally curl hair curly and look pretty?

I have naturally thick curly puerto rican hair. I flat iron my hair everyday usually. Is there a good mthod to use without having to make my hair feel crunchy with gel and hairspray?I need tips on how to style my naturally curl hair curly and look pretty?
I'm dominican and puertorican, I use Nexxus Gel and it's the ONLY thing that has worked for me. It's expensive tho, about $9 but it comes in a big tube. In the shower, I wet my hair, shampoo only every other day and always use tonssss of conditioner. I also detangle in the shower while the conditioner is in, I think it breaks the hair less... my hair is half way down my back and I split it in half and use a quarter size on each side. Then I make sure to brush it through so it's even and i don't get dry spots. I doesn't leave my hair crunchy it's just curly and not frizzy.
