How do you curl your hair with a flat iron?

I know the basics, that you pick a thin strand of hair, clamp the flat iron, rotate it, then pull down. But all it seems to be doing is straightening (and drying) my hair.

I put mousse on beforehand. I have black and thick long hair, and I've seen people with the same type of hair do it.

What am I doing wrong?How do you curl your hair with a flat iron?
try it when your hair is dry!

also, make sure when you pull the straightener through,

it's slow, and not too quick.

and make sure you keep it clamped tight,

or the curl will just fall out, and not curl correctly.



You also might need to rotate it a couple more times.

I have thick hair as well, and i have to rotate it around more

try taking a thin strand of hair twisting it and then straighten over that. It works also really well when you brait your hair and straighten over that.
I have curly hair so I don't really curl it. But here is a video tutorial about how to do it step by step! Maybe it will help since it's visual!

take a piece of hair and hold iron horizontally near the root of hair slightly twist and pull strait then let go and you should get a perfect curl x



i do it with my ghds all the time it looks amazing

I'm going to have to agree there are so many tutorials on YouTube for hair and make up. Some of the girls who do it are annoying lol but really good at what they do. Plus it would help for you to see it instead of reading how to do it. I wouldn't know from experience either, my hair is so thick and poofy I would never curl it, but I worship my straightener =)
pull your straightener down to the bottom of your hair, and roll it up like you would a curling iron.

or put it the top of the chunk of hair, roll it around 1/2 or a whole turn, then slowly pull it down through your hair.
Just take like a 1 inch section of hair then put your flat iron wherever you want the curl to start.

Then turn the flat iron slowly down your hair (pulling down) to make a curl.

its really easy.

From what I hear, its all in your wrist. I do believe you have to take small pieces of hair at a time. If you have a youtube account, search for it on there. Its a certain way you turn your wrist is all I know.

Curling iron doesn't curl my hair?

I am mixed with black and white so my hair is so frizzy all the time. Even if I flat iron it's no good. Only a little bit. Ok, I know you want bouncy curls,, but with my way, you get nice frizz free waves.



I got this from COSMOGIRL! btw.



1. Take a shower, and wash your hair. towel dry it.

2. Put some antifrizz stuff in it, and apply it all onto your hair.

3.Get out your blowdryer. Divide your hair into 4 sections

4. twist your first section(like what you do when you are bored) and blowdry it, and make sure not to let go. When it's dry, put that section in a bun, and secure it with a clip. Do this to every section.

5. Take out the buns, and brush through your hair with your fingers.Curling iron doesn't curl my hair?

Perhaps is it your curler? Or maybe you just need more hairspray :)

Ouch. You're going to burn your hair up with irons. Have you tried velvet covered heated rollers?
um, try pillow curlers. I have them in right now. You sleep in them and it feels really good. Or just get a perm.
My hair doesn't curl either. My hair lady said it as because i have such a natural wave to it. Maybe that's yours too?
How bout this. Take ur hair, and put it into a bun. You know, put on a ponytail, then twist ur hair up, then kinda just ccircle it up and use another hairband to tie it up.Then put on one of those bun cover thingies and either go to sleep like that (cannot sleep on ur back) or go through the day like that and then take off the bun cover and 2nd hairband.

Well this gives a curly ponytail. It will look a llittle strange if u take everything off, but still curly. If u are going to sleep this way, make sure u put on mousse or gel on the top, side, and back of ur head so in the morning it wont stick out as much.

Go to a salon and get a chemical staightener. Then you won't have to buy a flat iron which by the way after using it for a long time can dry out your hair and make it look bad on the ends as it did to mine.Can I straighten my hair without a flat iron?

brush out ur hair while u are blow drying it, if u hold the dryer downward while brushing it, it should dry it straight.

when its wet blow dry it and sort of flat it with your hands use some hair spray or gel to keep it in place.

or you could your sisters hair straightner

i no plentty of guys that strighten there hair and they look great
use relaxing creme after you wash your hair and it's wet and blow dry it with brush really straight.

try not to use flat iron because it damages the hair.
when i was out of town one time me and a couple o friends forgot to bring our streightener and the hotel room came with a clothes iron and an ironing board, so my friend layed her head on the ironong board while her sister ironed it flat!



its probably just a bad for your hair as it is to streighten it though.
